Cullman County Bluegrass in the Park festival this Saturday

The fifth Annual Minnie Pearl Memorial Bluegrass in the Park is this Saturday at Baileyton Town Park.

“There will be a jam session starting at 12 noon where anyone can come and play,” Wayne Bishop, festival organizer said.

The event will feature a jam session from noon until 5 p.m. Bishop encourages anyone who enjoys playing the banjo, guitar or any bluegrass instrument to come and play.

“Any young people who want to get a start are encouraged to come and gather around the picnic table and play with the older folks,” Bishop said.

There will be food vendors offering anything from hamburgers and hot dogs to pinto beans and cornbread Bishop said.

Starting at 5 p.m. bands will play on the main stage. Georgia Class, Cedar Bluff Junction and Weiss Lake Boys are scheduled to perform. Slim Bishop will emcee the event.

“We’ve got three real good groups coming this year,” Bishop said.

The Life South blood mobile will be at the event taking blood donations.

“We would love for everyone to join us,” Bishop said. “And the event is free to get in.”

Bishop said the first event had around 400 people attending and it has grown to about 2,000 last year.

Bishop hopes to expand the event to two days next year.

“We have applied for grants and hope to make it a two day event next year,”

Bishop encourages the community to come for a day of fun.

“Come enjoy some good pickin’.”

The event will be held at Baileyton Town Park located on Highway 69 between Arab and Cullman. Those attending are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to sit on.
